Montevideo, Uruguay, April 1st 2020 / PRNewswire / AXENYA, a Latin-American digital health start-up company, announces that it has closed its first round of funding. This investment will enable the company to accelerate its operations and continue to explore significant opportunities.
Axenya’s mission is to empower Latin-America’s doctors and patients to plug into the future of medicine. The brainchild of seasoned healthcare entrepreneur Mariano Garcia-Valiño, Axenya is placing an ambitious bet in the digital health space in the region. Details of its business model will remain undisclosed for the time being.
“Algorithms, biosensors and AI cannot replace physicians. But doctors that passionately embrace digital technologies will certainly replace those who do not. Axenya’s mission is to empower this transformation”, said Mariano.
Joining Mariano are co-founders Renato De Giorgi and Dr. Esteban Rubin. Together, Mariano and Renato have joined forces in prior healthcare companies that have posted billions in blockbuster exits, including one of the largest healthcare IPOs in the history of Latin America. The pair have also raised close to half a billion in capital. Dr. Rubin, a practicing physician and seasoned healthcare strategy consultant, is the founder of one of the top boutique healthcare strategy firms operating in Latin America, Europe and the US. The investor pool includes some of the very first backers of software-giant Globant and partner-level individuals at leading private equity funds, law firms and investment banks in the region. In a testimony to the true regional nature of the endeavor, the company has secured investors in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay.
“I am excited to start this new company”, said Renato, “Much as Mariano and I have done previously in the biotech space, Axenya will bring into LatAm novel and cutting-edge technology that will have deep and profound impact on doctors and patients lives. We are thrilled of starting yet another transformational journey”. Dr. Rubin added “Most of the market has tech-teams driving consumer-focused apps. We believe that sophisticated digital health requires also a medical approach. Axenya strikes this balance”.
The company will remain in stealth mode for the immediate future.
